Tesla’s owner has grappled with a occasional supercharger station, and the company takes extra steps to minimize a long queue during the Christmas trip period. According to Electrek, Tesla has made a free supercharging on several stations during off-peak hours (19:00 to 10:00 local time) between December 23 and December 26. Stations tend to be near the main routes and urban centers, and are limited to 11 countries including California, Nevada and Pennsylvania.
EV makers have tried to discount the previous off-peak supercharger level, but there is still a significant wait on several stations. Free charging during these hours is relatively new, though, and maybe lure the owner who wants to go early (or late) to save charge charging.
Promo underlined the growing problem for Tesla: The supercharger network tried to handle the larger customer base. Tesla has acknowledged this problem and vowed to multiply the network size within two years, but even it might have limitations when the company drove support for non-Tesla eVs. Don’t be surprised if refunds are free of charge off-peak on the occasion to help Tesla manage growth.
