The price of fuel in the country continued to remain in a row for more than two months on Monday, July 25. In Delhi, gasoline continues to sell for RS 96.72 per liter and diesel stands at RS 89.62 per liter. Gasoline consumers, in Chennai, can buy fuel for RS 102.63 per liter. The cost of one liter of diesel in the city is RS 94.24 per liter. One liter of gasoline in Kolkata is being sold for RS 106.03, while one liter of diesel in the capital city of West Bengal is being sold for RS 92.76 per liter.
The price of gasoline and diesel decreased in the country after the Minister of Finance Union Nirmala Sitharaman cut Customs and Excise which was levied on automotive fuel. Customs collected on gasoline are cut by RS 8 per liter, and reduced by RS 6 per liter on diesel on May 21.
In Maharashtra, the state government cuts the added tax (VAT) imposed on automotive fuel on July 15. VAT in gasoline is reduced by RS 5 per liter and in diesel, VAT decreased by hospital 3 per liter in the state. The retail price of gasoline in Mumbai is now RS 106.31 per liter, while the retail price of diesel in financial capital is in RS 94.27 per liter.
Revision of fuel prices made by public sector oil marketing companies (OMC) such as Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL). The revision made by OMC is applied starting at 6 am every day. There are several factors that contribute to changes in the price of gasoline and diesel. Several factors include foreign exchange rates, inflation, and international crude oil prices. The retail price of fuel varies from one country to another because of factors such as local taxes such as VAT, transportation costs, and shipping costs.
